Regency Tole-Painted Chestnut Urns with Lion Masks, probably Dutch, 19th century - Near-Pair of Regency Tole-Painted Chestnut Urns with Lion Masks, probably Dutch, first half of the 19th century A fine near-pair of Regency-period tole-painted chestnut urns, probably Dutch, first half of the nineteenth century. The urns are closely matched in form, each with an ochre-painted ground, stenciled decoration and lion-mask mounts. The painted reserves depict pastoral and architectural subjects, including a sailboat, windmill, farm landscape and a building with a tower. Though nearly identical at a glance, the pair shows subtle differences in profile, lion masks and painted decoration.
