Civil War original 1861 Currier & Ives Patriotic Print titled "THE UNION VOLUNTEER " "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1861 by Currier & Ives, in the Clerk's office of the District Court of the United States, for the Southern District of New York". The print's caption beneath the title reflects the patriotic fervor at the beginning of the war "O'er Sumter"s Walls OUR FLAG again will wave, And give to traitors all a bloody grave, OUR UNION and OUR LAWS maintain we must, and treasons banner trample in the dust".
