Civil War G.A.R. Small Souvenir Canteen ”We Drank From The Same Canteen” - Grand Army of the Republic - GAR souvenir canteen featuring a miniature canteen made of tin and covered in wool felt. The front features the G.A.R. membership star with wording that reads, ”WE DRANK FROM THE SAME CANTEEN 1861-1865”.  Reverse is plain. Measures 2.5” in diameter. Still retains the original cord and partial cork stopper and chain. There are a few moth nips on the back of the canteen.   This lot is part of the G.A.R. personal effects of George S. Burke who served in Battery L, 1st New York Light Artillery and Co. C, 1st New York Veteran Volunteer Cavalry. Burke was a resident of Barnard - Rochester, New York. He initially belonged to the New York G.A.R. Post No. 1 (O'Rorke Post) of Rochester, New York and was still listed as a member of that post in 1899. At some point he joined the Myron Adams Post No. 84 which was chartered in 1896. Please see lot 2232 for Burke's engraved G.A.R.
