Ornate Gilded Madonna and Child Icon - Embellished with Jewels, Gold-tone Frame, Polish Prayer Text - This is an ornate gilded icon depicting the Madonna and Child, a traditional Marian image. The central figures are rendered in a bas-relief or repoussé style with a radiant halo effect, both crowned and adorned with various colorful faux jewels. The Virgin Mary cradles the Infant Jesus, who also wears a crown. At the base of the icon, a Polish inscription reads ”POD TWOJA OBRONE UCIEKAMY SIE,” translating to ”Under your protection we seek refuge.” The icon is set within a richly detailed, gold-tone wooden frame featuring intricate floral and foliate carvings.
