A Group of Antique Halloween Postcards, c. 1908-1920 - This collection features antique Halloween-themed postcards, representative of the ”Golden Age” of postcards (c. 1900-1920s). Each card displays vibrant illustrations consistent with early 20th-century graphic design, incorporating elements of Art Nouveau and Victorian aesthetics, with some visible embossing. Common Halloween motifs such as witches, jack-o'-lanterns, black cats, and costumed figures are central to the designs. The postcards are printed on standard cardstock, with divided backs labeled ”This Space For Writing Messages” and ”This Side for the Address Only.” Each card bears a U.S. 1-cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp and visible postmarks indicating dates ranging from October 26, 1908, to October 28, 1920. Origins include Worcester, MA; Oper (likely Indiana); Chicago, IL; and St. Louis, MO. Handwritten messages and addresses are present on all backs, addressed to individuals in various U.S. states. Fronts feature titles such as ”HALLOWEEN GREETINGS,” ”MAY I BE your Hallow-Een Beau?”, ”MERRY HALLOW E'EN,” and a quote ”What's meant for thee Thee'll have.” Publisher marks include ”Made in Saxony” (Germany), ”International Art Pub Co. 1908,” and ”The Gibson Art Co.
