A Mid-20th Century Cast Metal Rocket Savings Bank with Original Box and Key - This vintage savings bank, known as the 'Strato Bank' and manufactured by Duro Mold & Mfg., Inc. of Detroit, Michigan, dates to the Mid-20th Century, reflecting the popular Mid-Century Modern and Space Age aesthetic of the 1950s-1960s. The bank is constructed from cast metal with a metallic teal-green painted finish. It features a stylized rocket ship, marked ”XU 232,” poised on a base that integrates a coin slot into a moon or planet-like sphere. A gold-toned plaque on the bank's base reads, ”''Watch Your Savings Soar'' THE MUNCY BANKING CO. MUNYC, PENNSYLVANIA Member Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.,” indicating its original promotional use. The bank is accompanied by its original cardboard box, which is labeled ”MANUFACTURED BY DURO MOLD & MFG., INC., 9980 ERWIN, DETROIT 34, MICH., MADE IN U. S. A.” and prominently displays ”STRATO BANK” on its side. The bank includes its original small cast metal key. A numerical marking ”2.00” is visible near the lock mechanism on the underside..
