A Watling Springless Coin-Operated Fortune Teller Floor Scale, Circa 1953 - A Watling Springless Coin-Operated Fortune Teller Floor Scale, manufactured by Watling Springless Scales Manufacturing Company, Chicago, established 1889, circa 1953. This vintage floor scale is designed for both weighing and dispensing ”weight and fortune” or ”question and answer” slips. It features a cream and red enameled metal body with a full-length mirror and a heavy cast iron base. Prominent text on the body includes ”HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH?”, ”NO SPRINGS”, ”DROP COIN HERE”, and ”OVER 200 QUESTIONS & ANSWERS,” along with operating instructions. The base bears the raised inscription ”WATLING SCALE CO CHICAGO.” An internal label further identifies the manufacturer and provides an Inspector's No. 7219-2-53 and Style of machine 400.
