A Collection of Late 19th to Early 20th Century Pictorial Metal Buttons, Mounted on a Display Card - A group of antique or vintage pictorial buttons, predominantly crafted from various metals such as brass, bronze, and silver-toned alloys, with some featuring enamel or resin details. The buttons, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, depict a range of historical, mythological, or literary figures, identified by handwritten labels including 'King Arthur,' 'Napoleon,' 'Little Son of Eagle {Napoleon},' 'Minerva,' 'Mars,' 'Balboa,' 'Hector,' 'Ajax,' 'Charles Emperor of Rome,' 'Wm Tell,' and 'Sarah.' The buttons are mounted on an aged, gridded cardboard display card titled in cursive 'Heads of Kings, Queens and Others.' They are attached to the card via small pins or threads, with some pieces positioned on light blue paper cutouts. The reverse of the card reveals numerous safety pins used to secure the buttons.
