A Lot of Antique Picture Buttons, including Hessian Soldier 'Es Devs Spes Nostra' Teutonic Eagle Examples, Mythological Creatures and More - A collection of antique picture buttons, prominently featuring several 'Hessian Soldier' buttons with the inscription 'ES DEVS SPES NOSTRA' (God is our hope) and Teutonic Eagle motifs. The lot comprises group of group of buttons mounted on an aged display card visibly inscribed ”Pattern” in cursive. The buttons vary in size and predominantly feature intricate relief designs of mythological creatures such as dragons and griffins, alongside heraldic motifs including eagles and shields. The primary material appears to be metal, likely brass or bronze, displaying a range of patinas from dark antique finishes to brighter gold tones. Several examples incorporate colored enamel or cold paint in hues of red, purple, blue, and silver. Other visible Latin inscriptions include ”SCHALDE DER GOLD” (Schalde of the Gold). Distinct materials are present, such as a large yellow button with a red dragon outline (likely early plastic or wood) and a blue enamel button with red and yellow dragons.
