A Collection of Vintage U.S. State Seal and Military Buttons on Display Card - This collection comprises approximately 70-80 circular, vintage buttons, predominantly crafted from brass or bronze, with a few examples in a silvery metal or with a dark, possibly antiqued finish. The buttons are affixed to an aged, grid-lined cardboard display sheet bearing the handwritten title ”State-Seals,” and numerous handwritten state names in blue and pink ink. Most buttons feature embossed designs depicting U.S. state seals or related imagery, often accompanied by the state name or motto. Visible Latin inscriptions include ”SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS” (”Thus Always to Tyrants”) on Virginia buttons, ”EXCELSIOR” (”Ever Upward”) on New York buttons, ”MONTANI SEMPER LIBERI” (”Mountaineers Are Always Free”) on West Virginia buttons, and ”ENSE PETIT PLACIDAM SUB LIBERTATE QUIETEM” (”By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty”) on Massachusetts examples. Other buttons display ”UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL” (Kentucky) and ”LOUISIANA.” distinctive dark button features the letters ”S X O C” (or S. P. O. C.) above the inscription ”OPUSQUE PARI” (”and work equal/by pair”). Buttons ranging in size from roughly 1 cm to 2.5 cm in diameter. Display card measures approximately 10 x 7.5 inches. Burns in-house shipping is available. Pick up is Saturday, Nov. 22, from 11 am to 2 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
