Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Navajo Silver
A Collection of Navajo Silver and Mixed Metal Buttons and Conchos - A collection of Navajo silver and mixed metal buttons and conchos. This lot comprises group of assorted ornamental buttons or conchos, primarily circular and varying in size, securely affixed to a light-colored board marked with blue pen circles. The objects are crafted from various metals, including prominently silver-toned, copper/bronze-toned, and brass/gold-toned materials. Designs are characteristic of Native American or Southwestern styles, featuring repoussé, stamped, and etched patterns such as stylized flowers, starbursts, and fluted domes. Several pieces incorporate small, round cabochons in red and turquoise blue. Figural motifs are common, depicting Native American profiles (some with feathered headdresses), buffalo, and eagles. Specifically, some buttons are direct representations or adaptations of U.S. coinage, with visible text ”UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on Buffalo Nickel-style pieces, and other profiles resembling Indian Head pennies or nickels. Handwritten cursive script on the board near some items reads ”Indian Silver.” Board measures approximately 10.5 x 7.5 inches. Buttons range in diameter from approximately 0.5 inches to 1.5 inches.
