Civil War CDV of Confederate Brigadier General Lloyd Tilgham, KIA at the Battle of Champion Hill - E. & H.T.. Anthony CDV of Confederate Brigadier General Lloyd Tilgham that features a full view pose of him holding his sword. While commanding a brigade during the Vicksburg Campaign, he was struck by a parrott shell and died shortly thereafter. Tilgham, a Maryland native, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1836. Early in the Civil War he was placed in charge of constructing Fort Henry and Fort Donelson on the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers. While he did not select the actual sites, he was slow to realize the poor position of Fort Henry. After he surrendered the fort, he was imprisoned at Fort Warren in Boston, Massachusetts and not released until August 1862 when he was exchanged for Union General John Reynolds.
