Bidspirit auction | Jennie Augusta Brownscombe The Berry
Jennie Augusta Brownscombe The Berry Pickers Colored Aquatint Etching - A framed reproductive print, identified through market consensus as ”The Berry Pickers” by Jennie Augusta Brownscombe (American, 1850-1936). The artwork, executed in a Victorian genre style, depicts a scene of women and children in period dress walking along a path after gathering berries or flowers. The original work is often referenced as a colored aquatint or etching. The lower margin of the print is titled ”Berry Pickers.” and includes the inscription ”AFTER ETCHING BY JAS S. KING.” Faint printing within the image suggests a publisher, possibly Berlin Photograph Co. The print is housed under protective glazing and mounted within a triple mat (off-white, maroon, and gray/blue). The contemporary frame is gold-toned molded wood.
