Vintage Flexible Flyer Airline Chief Steerable Sled - A vintage steerable sled, identified as the ”Airline Chief” model manufactured by S. L. Allen & & Co. Inc., Philadelphia, PA. The sled features a deck constructed of stained wooden panels secured to painted metal supports and runners, primarily black and red. The deck is decorated with painted text reading ”AIRLINE CHIEF” and ”FLEXIBLE FLYER” along with an arrow motif. Markings stamped on the underside confirm the manufacturer and note that S. L. Allen & Co. Inc. are also ”Manufacturers of Planet Jr. Farm & Garden Tools.” Further stamped text reads ”GENUINE FLEXIBLE FLYER WITH SAFETY-RUNNERS AND SUPER-STEERING, ” and includes a patent date of February, 1925. A thick rope is attached to the steering bar. Burns in-house shipping is available.
