A Reproduction Fantasy McCar and Goddard Slave Restraint with Sargent and Co Padlock - This lot consists of a reproduction/fantasy item modeled as a mid-19th century restraint. The assembly includes a wide leather strap, an integrated iron chain, and a separate padlock. A stamped metal plate is riveted to the center of the leather strap, bearing the inscriptions MCCAR & GODDARD, HORSES MULES HO, DARK N***** SLAVE, RICHMOND VA VIRGINIA, and 1854. A small secondary tag is riveted to the plate displaying the letters R, L, T, alongside eye and key symbols. The leather body is constructed with thick, darkened hide and heavy stitching. One end of the strap is fitted with a heavy iron buckle and a five-link iron chain. The separate padlock is marked SARGENT & CO, NEW HAVEN CT, USA. An 18-inch wooden ruler is included in the images for scale. Leather strap length: 17.5 inches Padlock: 3 inches x 2.25 inches. Pickup is Wednesday, April 22 from 10 am to 3 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
