A Pair of Jolly N***** Mechanical Banks - This lot consists of two mechanical bust banks identified as the Jolly N***** model, a design historically produced by foundries such as J. & E. Stevens in the United States and John Harper & Co. in the United Kingdom. The banks are constructed of cast iron with articulated components. The first bank features a figure wearing a tall brown top hat with a light blue brim, a dark gray jacket with a light blue collar, and a yellow bow tie. The second bank depicts a bare-headed figure with textured hair wearing a bright blue jacket with a brown collar and a white bow tie. Both items utilize a lever-action mechanism located on the rear shoulder; when depressed, the articulated arm moves the hand toward the mouth while the eyes roll and the tongue recedes to accept a coin. The backplates of both banks feature embossed text reading JOLLY N***** BANK arranged in a semi-circle around a central raised diamond. The blue-jacketed bank is fitted with a perforated base plate, and both units contain a circular coin trap on the underside. Bank 1 Height: 8 inches Bank 2 Height: 6.5 inches.
