A Pair of Cast Iron Mammy Still Banks - This pair of cast iron still banks depicts a woman in domestic attire, a subject frequently identified in historical Black Americana as a Mammy or Aunt Jemima figure. Each bank is constructed from two vertical cast iron halves joined by a single flat-head screw on the reverse. A coin slot is located on the back across the shoulders of each figure. The items are finished with cold-painted decoration featuring red dresses, white aprons and shawls, and red headscarves with white polka dots. The figures are depicted in a standing pose with hands on hips. No factory marks, model numbers, or decorator marks are visible on the castings. These examples are consistent with designs produced by American manufacturers such as Hubley during the early to mid-20th century. Height: 8 inches (20.3 cm).
