A Collection of Vintage Black Americana Novelties and Souvenirs - This collection consists mid-20th century novelty and souvenir items, several of which show Japanese origins. The group includes a figural ceramic condiment jar or teapot designed as a caricatured head with a black glaze, red and green painted accents, and a gold-toned metal bail handle. The green rim is marked PEPPER in gold paint, and the base features a gold and black JAPAN foil label with hand-painted numbers 2003E. Also included is a painted ceramic novelty dish or ashtray shaped as a head with an oversized open mouth. The lot contains three miniature cotton bale souvenirs constructed from burlap, cotton, and metal strapping. Two bales feature small seated figures, including one holding a watermelon slice. Labels on these items include I AM FROM DIXIE and Savannah, Ga. Additional figurines include a waiter in a white tuxedo, a seated figure in green-striped clothing, a small bisque child, and a novelty figurine of a figure with a toilet bowl marked LADIES. The toilet figurine is marked JAPAN with a manufacturer symbol inside a diamond. Items range from approximately 1 to 4 inches in height. Pickup is Wednesday, April 22 from 10 am to 3 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
