A Collection of Vintage Black Americana Aunt Jemima and Uncle Mose Style Ceramic Figurines and Shakers - This collection consists of approximately sixteen mid-20th century ceramic and bisque items categorized as Black Americana. The assortment includes several pairs and individual salt and pepper shakers in the Aunt Jemima or mammy style, featuring red headwraps, white aprons over red dresses, and various kitchen implements. Two shakers are marked with a faint S and P on the headbands to denote salt and pepper, and two bear the printed text NEW ORLEANS on the aprons. One shaker features an apron printed with GUMBO and NEW ORLEANS, LA. The collection also includes a figurine of a young boy in a yellow shirt and red cap seated on a sphere eating a slice of watermelon, a seated woman holding a child, a standing male figure in a red jacket and yellow trousers resembling the Uncle Mose character, and a larger standing figure next to a woven-textured vessel possibly intended as a match holder or small planter. The items are constructed from ceramic and bisque, with many featuring cold-painted finishes where paint was applied after firing. These pieces are typical of American souvenir-ware from the mid-20th century, frequently produced in Japan for the tourist trade in New Orleans, Louisiana.
