Bidspirit auction | Modern Reproduction Civil War Men
Modern Reproduction Civil War Men of Color Recruiting Broadside by Ohio Village Press - This item is a modern historical reproduction of a Civil War recruitment broadside addressed to Men of Color. The text calls for volunteers to enlist for three years of service in the 127th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry (O.V.I.), which was organized at Camp Delaware in Delaware, Ohio. The broadside uses urgent language such as Now or Never! and Fail now, and our race is doomed. It specifically references the valor shown by Black soldiers at the battles of Fort Wagner and Milliken's Bend. The bottom center of the document bears the mark Ohio Village Press, identifying it as a product of the printing office at the living history site operated by the Ohio History Connection. The piece is printed on heavy, off-white paper using traditional letterpress methods, evidenced by the ink bleed-through visible on the reverse side. The paper has been physically manipulated with folds and creases to simulate an authentic nineteenth-century appearance. Height: 23.5 inches Width: 11.5 inches.
