Editors of Ebony. Ebony Pictorial History of Black America. Johnson Publishing Company, 1971, 1974. Three Volumes. - This lot features a three-volume set titled Ebony Pictorial History of Black America, produced by the Editors of Ebony with an introduction by Lerone Bennett Jr. The collection was published by Johnson Publishing Company, Inc. of Chicago, with the Southwestern Company imprint present on the bindings. The volumes carry copyright dates of 1971 and 1974. These quarto-sized hardcovers are bound in textured maroon faux leather with gilt lettering on the front boards and spines. The work provides a visual record of African American history through black and white photographs, portraits, and historical plates. Volume I spans the African Past to the Civil War; Volume II covers Reconstruction to the Supreme Court Decision of 1954; and Volume III details the Civil Rights Movement to the Black Revolution. The text is printed on recycled paper. Notable figures and events depicted include Frederick Douglass, Marcus Garvey, Malcolm X, and the Scottsboro Boys trial. Height: 11 inches.
