Dixon, Thomas. The Clansman. Grosset & Dunlap, c. 1915. Photoplay Edition. - This volume is a hardcover edition of Thomas Dixon's novel The Clansman: An Historical Romance of the Ku Klux Klan, published by Grosset & Dunlap. Although the copyright page retains the original 1905 date, the title page and frontispiece identify this as a later photoplay edition, issued to coincide with the 1915 film The Birth of a Nation. The title page specifically notes the inclusion of scenes from the photo-play produced and copyrighted by the Epoch Producing Corporation. The book is bound in the publisher's red cloth with black stamped lettering and a double-rule border on the front board. The frontispiece plate is captioned The Reign of the Klan and depicts a scene from the motion picture. Internal evidence includes the handwritten ownership signature of Richard Tresenrider on the front free endpaper and a partially illegible name on the front pastedown. The text was printed at The Country Life Press in Garden City, New York. This is an octavo-sized volume. 7.5 x 5 inches.
