An Assortment of Four Black Americana and Jim Crow Era Ephemera Items Including Coon Chicken Inn Menu - This collection of four Black Americana items includes a die-cut Coon Chicken Inn menu and other Jim Crow era artifacts. The first item is a staple-bound recipe booklet titled Gems from Mammy's Southern Kitchen, published by the Purity Oats Company of Keokuk and Davenport, Iowa. It contains 100 recipes for Purity Rolled Oats and Purity Cornmeal and features racialized caricature illustrations on the cover and interior pages. The second item is a die-cut restaurant menu for the Coon-Chicken Inn chain, circa 1950. The exterior is shaped as the restaurant's caricature logo, and the interior lists menu items such as the Coon Chicken Special and Baby Coon Special. The reverse side lists locations in Seattle, Washington; Portland, Oregon; and Salt Lake City, Utah. The third item is a printed cardboard sign from A.A. Signs dated May 5, 1931, with the text WE SERVE COLORED CARRY OUT ONLY. The fourth item is a printed paper sign from the Lonestar Restaurants Association of Dallas, Texas, dated February 20, 1942, with the text NO DOGS NEGROES MEXICANS.
