A Collection of Mid-Twentieth Century Black Americana Folk Art Kitchen and Household Textiles - This collection consists of several domestic textiles and folk art items produced in the United States, circa 1940s to 1950s. The items feature stylized imagery and characters associated with the Black Americana genre. The group includes a clothes pin bag featuring a hand-painted wooden head of a female figure with a red and white polka-dot headscarf and a blue and white polka-dot fabric bag gathered at the neck to form a skirt. Also included is an oval-shaped fabric wall pocket with green trim containing two circular fabric pot holders designed with stylized faces and red fabric piping. A separate circular pot holder features a face on a black fabric ground with a red plaid upper border and a red and white polka-dot reverse. The collection is completed by two tea towels: one white textile featuring screen-printed imagery of figures and children in a floral landscape with red scalloped borders, and one off-white coarse-weave linen towel featuring an appliquéd and embroidered figure of a woman watering a potted cactus with a wide red border. The reverse of the wooden clothes pin bag head contains a small white adhesive label with the handwritten text Clothes Pin BAG.
