African American History and Civil Rights Memorabilia Items - This collection consists of items documenting significant figures and milestones in African American history, including framed prints, a commemorative newspaper, and die-cut displays. Item one is a framed facsimile reproduction of the Emancipation Proclamation, identified as Sheet No. 2. The document features printed script on artificially aged paper and includes the printed signatures of President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of State William H. Seward. It is housed in a black plastic frame with a cardboard backing and hanging wire. Item two is a framed educational poster titled Famous Black American Scientists, sponsored by Nabisco. The poster displays 20 portraits and biographical sketches of prominent figures including Benjamin Banneker, George Washington Carver, and Percy Julian. It is set in a black frame. Item three is a framed full front-page section of The Columbus Dispatch dated Wednesday, November 5, 2008. The headline reads Obama Makes History: America Elects Its First Black President. The newspaper is matted in light blue and housed in a silver-tone metal frame. Item four is a framed commemorative poster of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. titled I Have a Dream. It features the iconic photograph of Dr. King at the 1963 March on Washington with the full text of his speech printed in the lower right corner. It is held in a black frame. Item five is a framed reproduction print of an 1872 Currier and Ives lithograph titled The First Colored Senator and Representatives in the 41st and 42nd Congress of the United States. The print depicts Senator H.R. Revels and Representatives Benjamin S. Turner, Robert C. De Large, Josiah T. Walls, Jefferson H. Long, Joseph H. Rainy, and R. Brown Elliot. It is housed in a black frame. Items six and seven are a pair of identical die-cut cardboard portrait displays of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each portrait is set within a printed oval frame with a banner below reading Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. These items are unframed and include a small punch hole at the top for hanging.
