A Collection of Type I Original Mid-Century Racing Negatives and Prints by Smiths Racing Photos - This archive comprises a collection of Type I original photographic materials produced by Smiths Racing Photos, documenting mid-1950s American automotive racing and regional interest scenes in Ohio. The lot features numerous original brown kraft paper photographer sleeves, many of which contain large-format Kodak Safety Film negatives. Select sleeves also include corresponding black-and-white positive prints. These original sleeves contain extensive notes handwritten by the photographer providing documentation for the contained photo or negative. The subject matter primarily focuses on NASCAR state championship imagery from circa 1953, TQ (Three-Quarter) Midget racing, and local speedway events. Specific geographic locations identified in the notations include Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio; New Albany, Ohio; and the Ohio State Fair in Columbus. Beyond automotive racing, the collection documents commercial fair advertising setups for Anchor Hocking and regional utility equipment such as Rural Gas tanks. Signage visible within the photographic images includes a 1953 NASCAR State Champs logo and a McCulloch Supercharger advertisement. Pickup is Wednesday, April 22 from 10 am to 3 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
