A Collection of Original Type I Racing Photographs and Two Negatives by Smiths Racing Photos 1948 - This collection features original Type I black and white photographs and original negatives documenting open-wheel dirt track racing in the autumn of 1948. The images were produced by Smiths Racing Photos, W. H. Smith, Columbus, Ohio, and primarily depict midget or sprint car racing. Locations identified through notations include Heidelberg, Pennsylvania; Jones Speedway in Newark, Ohio; and Marysville, Ohio. The photographs include action shots on the track, driver portraits in cockpits, and post-race trophy presentations. Identified drivers and figures include Indianapolis 500 veteran Carl Scarborough, Buck Barr, Al Shaffer, Al Duras, Bob O'Neil, Kilroy Horner, Bill McGee, Don McLain, Bob Otto, Leroy Hoover, McFarland, and Goose. The reverse of the photographs features the photographer stamp: Smiths Racing Photos, W. H. SMITH, 1414 1/2 N. 5th ST., COLUMBUS, OHIO, WA 4775. prints also include the official C.S.P.A. (Central States Promoters Association) logo in the corner. Many versos contain detailed handwritten notations and smaller contact-size prints attached with adhesive. The original negatives are housed in their original brown paper sleeves, which contain extensive notes about the contained photo and negative. Any newer manila envelopes included were used to organize the contents of the lot. Dimensions: x 10 inches per primary photograph. Pickup is Wednesday, April 22 from 10 am to 3 pm at our gallery in Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
