Bidspirit auction | A Collection of Type I
A Collection of Type I Original Smith's Racing Photos Ohio Midget and Sprint Car Racing circa 1959-1960 - This collection consists of black and white photographic prints documenting dirt track midget and sprint car racing in Ohio during the late 1950s and early 1960s. All items are Type I originals by Smith's Racing Photos, produced by W.H. Smith of Columbus, Ohio. The photographs capture high-action scenes including full-slide cornering, feature starts, and winner's circle presentations. Identified locations and events include Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, the Upper Sandusky Fair, the Marion Ohio Fair, Hobart Arena in Troy, and tracks in Urbana and Dayton. Specific drivers such as Bill Ribbon and Forrest Prince are documented. A significant feature of this archive is the inclusion of the original negatives for images, housed in small brown envelopes attached to the reverse of the prints. These original sleeves contain extensive notes about the contained photo and/or negative, including specific race details, driver names, and dates. Any newer manilla envelopes present are empty and were utilized to organize the lot, typically featuring transcribed location and date information. The prints bear the red ink stamp for Smith's Racing Photos on the reverse. 8 x 10 inches.
