19th Century American Painted Six-Board Blanket Chest - This utilitarian American six-board blanket chest dates to the 19th century and represents a primitive form common in rural households, likely from the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic region. The chest is constructed of solid wide boards, likely pine or a similar softwood, using simple nailed joinery. The exterior features a mustard-yellow or ochre paint finish. The lid is attached with a group of iron butt hinges and is reinforced on the interior with wooden cleats to prevent warping. The sides are equipped with heavy, black-painted wrought iron swing handles. A central lock and keyhole are present on the front, with the internal latch and strike plate visible on the interior edge and lid. The interior includes wooden supports on either side for storage boxes or tills, though the tills themselves are currently missing. Length: 35 inches. Burns in-house shipping is available.
