The collection is contained within its original The Dandy File briefcase-style storage box, constructed from heavy cardboard with a black and white mottled paper exterior and a cloth-reinforced spine. The spine features printed text reading The Dandy File and Letters along with handwritten ink notations From Jan 1 1944 to Dec 31 1944. Inside, the box contains original alphabetical index dividers and an assortment of original itemized invoices, receipts, and correspondence. Numerous regional business entities are represented in the archive, including Baker Brothers Wholesale Grocers (Zanesville, OH), The Black and Grant Co. (Zanesville, OH), The Bailey Drug Co. (Zanesville, OH), Muskingum Valley Grocery Company (McConnelsville, OH), John Plain and Company (Chicago, IL), The Smith Bros Hardware, and Progress Mfg. Company. Documents list a wide variety of wartime and mid-century consumer goods including groceries, confections, household chemicals, and hardware.
