A Collection of Native American and Indigenous-Style Lithics, Ceramics, and Ethnographic Reconstructions - This varied collection contains prehistoric-style stone tools, contemporary Southwest-style ceramics, and modern educational reconstructions. The stone tool component includes a large sedimentary cup stone, also known as a nutting stone, featuring several pecked depressions and an adhered paper label identifying its use. ground stone axe heads are present, each exhibiting manufacturing through pecking and grinding with distinct hafting grooves. The lithic assortment also includes a broad tan chert biface and a smaller projectile point or knife crafted from mottled blue and gray chert with visible pressure flaking along its edges. The ceramic portion features small polychrome vessels with neon geometric patterns characteristic of 20th-century Southwest tourist art. A traditional three-legged lava stone molcajete and matching pestle are included; the exterior of the mortar displays hand-painted red lettering reading MEXICO. A small, dark stone bowl is inscribed on the underside with the name B.J.W. TayloR. and a small elbow-style pipe is present. Completing the lot are modern reconstructions of hafted axes, featuring stone heads secured to split wooden handles with leather cordage and hide.
