An Assortment of Antique and Vintage American Trade Tools with Eric Sloane Reference Book - An assortment of antique and vintage trade tools comprising various implements for woodworking, leatherworking, and kitchen utility, accompanied by a reference text. Notable marked pieces include a Keen Kutter cast-metal hand-cranked meat grinder, model K 129, manufactured by the Simmons Hardware Co. of St. Louis. Woodworking tools include a Keen Kutter transition-style bench plane, a large traditional wooden bench plane with iron blade, and an L.S. Starrett Co. try square featuring brass diamond-shaped inlays and maker markings for Athol, Mass. The lot contains a semi-circular half-moon knife stamped W. Rose West Phila, commonly used in leatherworking. Also present are a Shapleigh Hardware Co. Diamond Edge hatchet with an arrow-and-bow motif stamp, an adjustable metal wrench marked Lowentraut Newark N.J., and a T-handle chopper stamped C.W. Dunlap New York. A small multi-blade folding pocket knife is marked Imperial Prov. R.I. U.S.A. Additional items include a large wooden T-handle auger bit, pairs of forged iron calipers or tongs, a metal rasp with a wooden handle, an iron plumb bob, a metal scoop, a metal hook marked Gold Label Paint, and several wooden paddles and mallets. The collection is sold with a mass-market paperback copy of A Museum of Early American Tools by Eric Sloane, published by Ballantine Books. The included wooden ruler measures 18 inches.
