Native American Mortar Stone - This large Native American mortar stone is composed of a dense, fine-grained greenish-gray rock, likely a variety of limestone or dolomite. The specimen features a shallow, smooth depression on its primary face, indicative of its use as a grinding tool for processing grains, seeds, or pigments. The exterior of the stone shows natural weathering with areas of yellowish-tan patina and rough-hewn edges. Interestingly, An of the side faces exhibits a prominent radial, plumose pattern of striations emanating from a central point, a feature visually consistent with geological shatter cones.
