A Trio of Mosaic Tile Company Americana Theme Decorative Ceramic Tiles - A trio of mid-century modern decorative ceramic tiles produced by The Mosaic Tile Company of Zanesville, Ohio, circa early 1960s. The subjects include George Washington with an axe and a cherry tree on a square tile, Betsy Ross sewing the American flag on a vertical rectangular tile, and a youth ringing the Liberty Bell on a horizontal rectangular tile. The decoration utilizes silk-screened or stenciled glazes with textured, gritty sand-glaze accents in green, gold, and red. The reverse of each tile is impressed with MADE IN U.S.A. alongside factory numbers including LC1, 242, 224, LC3, 115, and 8C2. Each tile retains its original paper label stating THE MOSAIC TILE COMPANY ZANESVILLE, OHIO and describing the dust-pressed production method. Handwritten notations on the labels include the name Barkley, the date Early 1960s, and design numbers 529 and 532. Square tile: 4.25 x 4.25 inches Rectangular tiles: 6 x 4.25 inches.
