A Collection of Historical Labor and Railway Photography, Currier and Ives Lithograph, and Religious Artworks - This group consists of a diverse collection of late 19th and early 20th-century paper ephemera, historical photography, and religious artworks. The collection features several items of significant labor and railway interest. Included is a mounted group portrait of the First Organized Committee of Employees of the Kanawha and Michigan Railway (K. and M. Ry.) dated March 1, 1899. The mount identifies the participants and their respective union divisions, including the Order of Railway Conductors (O. R. C.), Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen (B. L. F.), and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (B. L. E.). A second mounted photograph depicts a labor parade with a participant carrying a sign for the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA). Also present is a framed 1923 gelatin silver print by the Sainsbury Photo Co. of Salt Lake City, showing the Illinois Champions of the International Mine Rescue Contest with their trophies and awards. The collection includes a hand-colored lithograph published by Currier and Ives titled Genl. Shields at the Battle of Winchester, VA. 1862. The print is addressed from 152 Nassau St. New York and contains a descriptive paragraph concerning General Shields. Religious items include a framed motto print with the text The Lord Is My Shepherd decorated with roses, and a framed print depicting Saint Cecilia at an organ with cherubs. Completing the lot are a group of unframed paint-by-number boards on textured board, featuring various depictions of Jesus Christ and a mission church. K. and M.
