The interior lid retains a printed paper advertising label for Keen Kutter scissors and shears, featuring the E.C. Simmons Trade Mark. The exterior lid shows a weathered factory stamp for Simmons Shapleigh H Co along the bottom edge, dating the set post-1940 following the merger of the two hardware companies. Secondary notations in black marker on the lid read 103/1632, Kerr-Hdw-Co, and Athens-OH, likely referring to the Kerr Hardware Company formerly located in Ohio. The tool collection includes a wooden-bodied auto body file with a curved-tooth Vixen-style metal rasp, a drawknife with steel blade and dual wooden handles, a cobbler-style hammer with a flared striking face, a small steel claw hammer, a hand saw with a carved wooden handle, and an all-wood mallet with a curved handle.
