Rookwood Pottery 1946 Resting Fox Ceramic Ashtray Shape 2647 - A vintage American art pottery ashtray produced by Rookwood Pottery of Cincinnati, Ohio. This glazed ceramic piece is circular in form and features three molded cigarette rests. A three-dimensional figure of a resting fox is sculpted along the rim, with its head turned toward the center of the dish. The item is finished in a uniform ivory or cream-colored glaze. The underside of the base bears various impressed and incised marks, including the Rookwood factory mark (an RP monogram within a circle of flames), the Roman numeral date code XLVI for 1946, and the shape number 2647. An incised X mark is present to the right of the factory mark, and hand-incised initials that appear to be DH are located near the foot rim. Diameter: 6.5 inches.
