A Collection of American Art Pottery Including Rookwood and American Potter Pieces - This collection of glazed earthenware consists of animal and bird-themed items from the 20th century. Included is a 1923 Rookwood Pottery bird figure or bookend (shape 2657) finished in a thick green crackle glaze. It bears the impressed Rookwood RP sunburst logo, Roman numerals XXIII for the year, and a circular monogram containing the initials MCD. A second Rookwood piece is a heart-shaped dish featuring two birds perched on the rim (shape 6990) with a pale blue speckled glaze and a faint impressed mark on the base. A contemporary Rookwood bird figurine on a plinth base is finished in a matte blue glaze and bears a handwritten 1987 date and artist initials LHUC on the underside. The collection also includes a stylized green rabbit-form planter with upright ears and a hollow body, a circular cream-glazed planter with four bird heads evenly spaced around the rim, and a small cream-glazed duck-form dish. The small duck dish is marked on the base with an impressed script mark for American Potter overlaid with a large letter P.
