A Pair of American Encaustic Tiling Company Ceramic Cherub Bookends, 1926 - A pair of slip-cast ceramic bookends manufactured by the American Encaustic Tiling Company (AETCO) of Zanesville, Ohio. Each bookend features a high-relief scene depicting a seated putto or cherub holding a decorative garland, with a small rabbit positioned in the lower-left corner. The motif is framed within a stepped, arched border above a base with an embossed stylized leaf pattern. The pieces are finished in a matte, multi-toned glaze of ochre and tan with greenish-gray stippling in the recessed areas. The reverse of each bookend is impressed with the circular AETCO monogram above the year 1926. The unglazed bases show a white clay body and a hollow construction. Height: 4.75 inches.
