1961 Schlitz Beer Saturn Satellite Illuminated Hanging Bar Sign - This vintage illuminated hanging bar sign was produced for the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company and is a well-known example of mid-century modern ”Space Age” advertising, often referred to by collectors as the Saturn or Satellite sign. The fixture is constructed from translucent blue and white molded plastic with metal hardware. It consists of two blue hemispherical domes joined by a central white band. The band features the Schlitz brand name in large red serif block letters. The upper blue flange bears embossed text reading: FORM 171 © 1961 JOS. SCHLITZ BREWING COMPANY, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, U.S.A. BREWERIES AT MILWAUKEE, WIS.; BROOKLYN, N.Y.; LOS ANGELES, CALIF.; KANSAS CITY, MO.; AND TAMPA, FLA. The opposite side of the flange is embossed with the slogan: THE BEER THAT MADE MILWAUKEE FAMOUS. Small circular ventilation holes are present around the shoulder of both the upper and lower blue sections. The top of the unit is fitted with a metal mounting bracket and a vintage electrical cord. The interior flange has the name Allman handwritten in white marker. Diameter: 14 inches. Burns in-house shipping is available.
