1970 Suzuki Violin Co. No. 230 Bowl-back Mandolin with Case - This 1970 bowl-back mandolin was manufactured by the Suzuki Violin Co., Ltd. in Nagoya, Japan. The instrument, identified as Model No. 230, features a traditional Neapolitan-style bowl-back construction with multiple ribs of dark hardwood, likely rosewood, separated by light wood spacers. The soundboard is made of spruce and is decorated with a wood-inlaid pickguard and multi-ply purfling around the edges and soundhole. The mandolin has a mahogany neck topped with a slotted headstock and a dark wood fingerboard with dot inlays. Hardware includes open-gear tuning machines with cream-colored plastic buttons and a stamped metal tailpiece. The internal oval paper label is marked with the registered Suzuki logo and reads Suzuki Violin Co., Ltd. Nagoya Japan, No. 230, 1970. The instrument is accompanied by a vintage hard shell case with a black textured exterior and an orange plush-lined interior, along with a white celluloid pick and two vintage packets of Paramount Mandolin Calace 2A strings.
