Fisher Model 404 Wide-Surround 2/4-Channel Convertible Stereo Receiver - This is a Fisher model 404 Wide-Surround series 2/4-channel convertible stereo receiver, manufactured circa the early 1970s. The solid-state unit is housed in a wood-finished cabinet. The front panel features a dual-tone design with a black upper section containing an analog AM/FM tuning dial backlit in blue, alongside integrated signal strength and tuning meters. The lower silver-tone section houses three vertical slide-lever tone controls for Bass, Midrange, and Treble, a joystick-style Master Balance control for four-channel adjustment, and a horizontal slide volume control. Rotary knobs are present for speaker selection, mode/monitor, and tuning. A series of push-buttons control FM Muting, SQ Decoder, FM Noise Filter, High/Low filters, and Loudness. The dial area includes illuminated indicators for SQ, 2, and 4 channel modes, as well as a Stereo Beacon indicator. The rear panel contains a comprehensive array of RCA connections for Phono, Aux 1, Aux 2, Tape Monitor, Accessory, and Recorder outputs. Speaker outputs are configured as screw terminals for Main and Remote sets, supporting up to four speakers each for quadraphonic playback. A silver foil label on the rear is marked Fisher WIDE-SURROUND 404, 2/4-CHANNEL STEREO RECEIVER, 120V AC 50-60 Hz, 320W, 420VA MAX. (8 Ohm LOAD), and FISHER RADIO N.Y.
