Antique Iroquois Raised Beaded Whimsy Pincushion - This antique Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) raised beadwork pincushion, traditionally known as a whimsy, is constructed in a scalloped six-pointed star shape. The center features a square of purple velvet accented with clear glass raised beadwork depicting two birds perched on branches over a nest with eggs. The outer border consists of tan silk fabric adorned with raised beadwork leaves in a variety of colors including clear, red, blue, green, and yellow. The reverse is finished with a plain tan textile. This item is characteristic of souvenir beadwork produced by the Iroquois for the tourist market during the late 19th or early 20th century. No manufacturer or artist signatures are present. Width: Approximately 8.5 inches. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
