Haudenosaunee Iroquois Beaded Souvenir Slipper Whimsey From Niagara Falls - This object is a Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) beaded souvenir slipper whimsey, produced for the tourist trade at Niagara Falls. The slipper is constructed from a yellow silk or sateen fabric, which is backed and lined with a coarser tan-colored textile, likely cotton or linen. It features hand-sewn raised beadwork using seed beads in various colors, including green, white, blue, pink, brown, and clear. A central floral motif on the vamp incorporates larger faceted glass beads. The toe portion of the slipper bears the beaded inscription FROM NIAGARA FALLS in green beads across three lines. The perimeter is finished with a multicolored beaded fringe, and a beaded loop for hanging is attached at the heel. Such items were commonly used as decorative wall hangings or pincushions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Slipper body length: 4.5 inches Total length including hanging loop: 5.5 inches.
