A Collection of Art, Maritime, and Industrial History Books and Ephemera (DJ) - A collection of volumes and printed ephemera focused on art history, maritime technology, and industrial heritage. The group includes several large-format hardcover monographs and instructional works. Notable titles include Richard Schmid, Alla Prima II: Everything I Know About Painting—and More (Expanded Edition, Schmid Publications); Whistler: A Retrospective; and So Bravely and So Well: The Life and Art of William T. Trego. Maritime and industrial history are represented by Howard I. Chapelle, The History of American Sailing Ships (W. W. Norton & Company); Iron and Steel Production: Paintings and Bronzes from the Eckhart G. Grohmann Collection; and Images of America: West Point Foundry. Technical and exhibition works include Henry C. Pitz, Drawing Trees (Watson-Guptill); Herman Heyenbrock: Industriebilder 1900-1940; and an exhibition pamphlet titled The Lure of the Decoy from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The group also features Albert Parry, Whistler's Father; John McDonogh, the Founding of McDonogh School, and the Early Leaders; and a nineteenth-century hardcover volume bound in brown cloth with ornate blind-stamped floral and geometric decorations. Most hardcover volumes are bound in publisher's cloth with pictorial dust jackets. The ephemera includes a guide with a handwritten ink inscription at the upper right corner reading D.V. KNAPP 7-12-85. Formats in the collection range from small octavo to large quarto. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH. Alternate pickup day is available by appointment for a $5 fee per lot or we will provide in-house shipping for this item.
