Bidspirit auction | Two Slavic Folk Art Decorative

Two Slavic Folk Art Decorative Eggs Including a Russian Lacquer Egg and a Framed Pysanka - This lot features two examples of Slavic decorative folk art. The first is a hand-painted lacquer egg, likely constructed of wood or papier-mache, featuring a black ground. The central composition depicts a traditional Russian troika, a sleigh drawn by three horses, carrying passengers in colorful winter clothing through a snow-covered village landscape with birch trees. The decoration is executed in a folk style utilizing a palette of red, green, yellow, and white. While a circular indentation is present on the base, no artist signature, factory mark, or Cyrillic inscription is discernable. The second item is a traditional pysanka, a real eggshell decorated with geometric and celestial motifs using the wax-resist batik technique. The design features star and sunburst patterns in black, red, and white. This egg is presented in a wooden shadow box with a burl-wood veneer and a dried stalk of wheat. The shadow box is fitted with glass and a sawtooth hanger on the reverse. Lacquer egg height: approximately 4.5 inches Shadow box: approximately 5.25 x 6.25 x 1.75 inches.
