Japanese Meiji Period Cloisonne Enamel Charger Attributed to Goto - This Japanese cloisonne enamel charger dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912). The piece is constructed with a copper base and features fine wire cloisons filled with colored vitreous enamels. The central composition depicts two wild geese in flight against a vibrant turquoise blue ground, positioned above a stylized, snow-capped Mount Fuji. In the foreground, delicate grasses and small yellow chrysanthemums are rendered with precision. The decorative border consists of a repeating geometric Greek key pattern interspersed with stylized floral rosettes. The reverse is fully enameled in a matching turquoise ground and decorated with a continuous karakusa scrolling vine pattern composed of fine wire spirals. While visual evidence and market consensus suggest an attribution to the workshop of Goto, no maker marks or signatures are visible on the object. A modern yellow circular inventory sticker is affixed to the reverse. Diameter: 12 inches. Pickup is Friday, July 31, from Noon to 7 pm at our facility in Lancaster, OH.
