Antique Hand-Carved 53-Inch Single Oxen Yoke by Andrew Jackson Sutton, Dated 1860 - This antique single ox neck yoke is hand-carved from a single piece of contoured hardwood, identified by the user as 53 inches wide. The piece features a central iron mounting plate secured with rivets, which holds a large iron ring. On the reverse side of the center is a corresponding metal pin and slotted bolt assembly. Two small metal eye-hooks are mounted on the upper edge of the yoke. Large vertical holes are bored through each end to accommodate yoke bows, which are currently missing. The wood surface is incised with hand-carved lettering that reads MADE BY ANDREW JACKSON SUTTON and the date 1860. Additional markings on the wood include the date 1860 and the numbers 0981 incised in an inverted orientation. The metal hardware has been finished with a silver-colored paint.
