Bidspirit auction | Antique Cast Iron Hand-Crank Blacksmith
Antique Cast Iron Hand-Crank Blacksmith Post Drill Press - This is an antique wall or post-mounted drill press, commonly referred to as a blacksmith's post drill, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The tool is constructed primarily of cast iron and is mounted to a vertical timber post. It features a hand-operated crank with a turned wooden handle that drives a series of gears and a large flywheel to rotate the spindle. The mechanism includes an adjustable circular work table mounted on a vertical support rod below the spindle assembly. Raised cast lettering is present on the side of the main frame, though it is currently obscured by surface oxidation and is not clearly legible. The design and mechanical configuration are characteristic of models produced by manufacturers such as Silver Manufacturing Co., Champion Blower and Forge, or Canedy Otto.
