A Vintage Sinclair Refining Co. Sinclair Oils Wooden Shipping Crate with US Navy Markings - This mid-20th century wooden shipping crate was produced for the Sinclair Refining Co. and features original black stenciled advertising and military contract information. The crate is constructed from thick wooden slats held together with metal nails. The two main side panels are stenciled with the text SINCLAIR OILS in a bold serif typeface. One end panel contains extensive military stenciling including: NAVY, SYMBOL 2110, S. A. E. 10, SINCLAIR REFINING CO., CONTRACT NO. NXS-7163, (KEEP OUT SALT WATER), and the code M-G-G2-B-25(9). The wood shows a weathered natural finish with significant surface staining and oxidation on the fasteners. The crate is open at the top, missing its original lid.
